I want to verify the year of manufacture, whether it has a 60's neck and the color. Go to the Gibson site, and decipher it yourself, or call them. Necro answer - The Guitar Dater is merely a decoder that works by using known serial number formats and decoding them for you.
Guitar Dater is a just one tool you can use to see if the serial number be valid.
Then, having a look at the guitar or photos, if you know what to look for, is also useful. I have a 2014, it still can't decode the serial.
If you had a listing which was for an active service, you will need to resubmit it - please do so at your leisure. Can anyone point me in the right direction for checking out serial/details of a potential purchase I'm about to make?
I checked Gibson site, but there's just details of what all the numbers mean - couldn't see a form for submitting or anything.
1935-1937: Letter between the batch number and the order number. 0123 A5 1938-1941: Two or three letters before batch number. If there is a second character follows it is the code for the type of the instrument.
(G = Gibson, K = Kalamazoo, W = Recording King (Montgomery Wards).
